LGBTQ Elders
LGBTQ for elders is a term that refers to services, programs, and advocacy efforts aimed at supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) older adults. LGBTQ elders face unique challenges related to aging, including discrimination, social isolation, and barriers to accessing healthcare and other services.
Organizations that serve LGBTQ elders work to address these challenges and provide resources and support that meet the specific needs of this population. These organizations may offer a range of services and programs, including:
- Health and wellness programs that address the specific health needs of LGBTQ elders, such as HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, mental health services, and support for gender identity and expression
- Social programs and events that promote social connections and community engagement among LGBTQ elders
- Advocacy efforts aimed at promoting policies and programs that address the needs of LGBTQ elders and combat discrimination
- Educational resources and training for healthcare providers, caregivers, and others who work with older adults
Examples of organizations that serve LGBTQ elders include SAGE (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders), the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging, and the LGBT Elder Initiative.
